Estate Planning Council of San Gabriel Valley

The Estate Planning Council of San Gabriel Valley is a group of professionals in the disciplines of law, accounting, financial services and planning, trust administration, insurance services and planned giving. Per the group’s bylaws following are the classifications eligible for membership:

Classifications: Membership in this Council shall be composed of professionals in the following classifications: (i) attorneys who are licensed to practice law in the State of California; (ii) accountants who are certified and licensed to practice public accountancy in the State of California; (iii) planned giving officers who are employed by or consultant to institutions described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; (iv) trust officers who are employed by corporations having trust powers or are independent professional fiduciaries; and (v) financial services professionals, who are chartered life underwriters, chartered financial analysts and/or certified financial planners.

For all classifications, the following are prerequisite to membership of an individual:

  • High professional character and ethical conduct; and

  • Continuous service in the individual’s classification for a period of at least five years with engagement in estate planning for at least two years, or five years’ service in estate planning in any category.

The Council does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations. The activities include, but are not limited to, selection of volunteers and vendors, and provision of services.

Members meet monthly eight times per year to socialize over dinner and hear a speaker on a current topic relevant to estate planning.

1 hour of continuing education credits for MCLE and CPA can be earned for each of the meetings.

Membership requires sponsorship by a current member. Dues are $250 for 2020-2021 and includes a hosted social in May.

I understand that as a member I will be required to pay annual dues of $250.00; that I will be expected to attend all Council meetings if it is possible for me to do so, and that if I miss three (3) consecutive meetings without indicating to the Secretary satisfactory reasons for my absence, that my membership may be canceled.

I am in accord with the objectives of the Council, which are as follows: "To help equip its members to render the highest type of service to the public; to acquaint those in need of estate planning service of the protection and advantages afforded by expert guidance; to develop a closer cooperation and a better understanding of the proper relationship which attorneys, accountants, planned giving officers, trust officers and financial services professionals bear to the others and to the general public."

The named sponsor knows the applicant and will separately state that he/she is an active member in good standing of the Council in any of the five professional classifications.

The named endorsers know the applicant and will separately state that he/she is an active member in good standing of the Council in the same professional classification as the applicant.
